Women by Matilde Viegas

“Ever since I’ve moved to Porto, I feel there has been a change in me. It wasn’t solely for the intricate streets that seem to have no specific direction, for the unexpected warmth that came in the rude gestures of its people, nor for the hundreds of cats I see daily, walking around in the gardens. I know this change has its cause in somewhere else: it came from the women I’ve met here. Every single one of them gave me something new and they all have taken care of me in the past few years, as if I was suddenly adopted by all these crazy mothers.
Am I grateful to them? Do I feel like I owe them the world? Yes. YES.

This is my memorial, my vow, my love for them.
Thank you.”
