Reading an exhibition together #2

Reading an exhibition together
28 October 2017 – 18 February 2018

Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art One
NOW: Michael Armitage, Yto Barrada, Kate Davis,
Susan Philipsz, Hiwa K, Sarah Rose

NOW exhibition gathers together the work of six artists, and their approach to the themes of storytelling, communication, memory, love and loss. As a part of the exhibition, My Bookcase invites you to take part in a growing conversation about the themes of the artworks, and the ideas on display.

Can we ‘read’ an exhibition like a book?
Can we tell the story of an exhibition together?

Visitors were invited to pick up a shared journal to annotate their experiences of the exhibition while visiting the Galleries or at the dedicated space of the Resource Room. Pages prompted visitors to think about their encounter with the artworks: How does the work make you think and feel? What are your reflections on the exhibition? What would you ask the artist?

The shared journals brings multiple voices to a communal reading of the exhibition and enabled a conversation through the page between present, past and future visitors.

The shared journals are currently being recorded online, creating a new resource mapping our journey through an exhibition. They will be available to read in this page.

Accompanying the shared journals, the Big Thought Book is especially for those thoughts and drawings that need lots of space. Its pages, as the shared journals, prompt you to think about the artwork you have encountered.

‘Reading an exhibition together’ is a project by My Bookcase in collaboration with Màiri Lafferty and Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art .
