The Book Curator

My Bookcase is a social enterprise and creative studio specialized in the object of the book and its reader. It is in this line that we are approached to curate special collections for unique reading rooms. Clients we have worked with include: Gran Meliá Victoria (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques (Madrid, Spain) & Gran Meliá de Mar (Mallorca, Spain).

Each collection is a different project, as it uniquely responds to the context of the reading room. For its creation, we take in account the kind of user of the reading room, its location and the specific needs of the client when creating this collection.

For Gran Meliá Victoria, we devised a group of curators to select the books with us. Being this hotel located in Palma, the capital of Mallorca, we selected personalities and institutions to select for us the 5 books that best represent their work or interests. A total of 10 curators engaged with the project, bringing a selection of books that brings together art, architecture, interior design, fashion, history, gastronomy amid others. The aim of the collection was to offer the hotel’s guests a window to the cultural offer of the island. As part of the project, we also designed a bespoken book stand to host big volumes at the Congress Center’s foyer spaces.

Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques in Madrid is a hotel inspired by the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez. This moved us to create a book collection informed by Velázquez’s personal library. For it, we worked with a list of book titles found at his studio. Finding contemporary titles that represented them. In addition to it, we also included books about his work and his contemporaries, as well as books about the local context of the hotel.

All collections have a digital catalogue. You can discover them at My Bookcase Platform.
